Goa, May 29 -- India produced a dominant all-round performance to defeat England by 38 runs in the opening Women's T20I in Chelmsford and take an early lead in the series.

After recovering from a shaky start to post a strong total of 188/7, the Indian bowlers delivered a disciplined display to restrict England to 150/8 in their chase.

England opted to bowl first and struck immediately through Lauren Bell, who removed stand-in captain Smriti Mandhana off the very first ball of the match. Bell struck again in the same over as Shafali Verma miscued a shot to leave India in early trouble.
