Goa, Oct. 29 -- The High Court has issued notices to the Directorate of Prosecution and other respondents on a petition filed by activist Kashinath Shetye challenging the appointment of a Public Prosecutor to represent police officers facing allegations of misconduct.

The petition challenges the appointment of a Public Prosecutor to defend Superintendents of Police Rahul Gupta, Jivba Dalvi and Harish Madkaikar, along with Police Inspector Tushar Lotlikar.

Shetye has contended that a Public Prosecutor's role is to uphold the public interest and that the appointment should not be used to defend police officers facing allegations of misconduct.

The High Court will hear the matter next on December 1.
