High Court Directs Authorities to Fix Date for Removal of Shivaji Statue from MPA Land at Sada
Panaji, June 24 -- The High Court has directed the South Goa Superintendent of Police and the South Goa Collector to convene a meeting with officials of the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) on July 6 to determine a date for the removal of the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj that was allegedly installed illegally on MPA-owned land at Sada.
The court issued the direction while hearing a matter concerning the unauthorised installation of the statue on port authority property.
During the proceedings, the Mormugao Port Authority informed the court that attempts to dismantle the statue on two earlier occasions could not be carried out as the required police protection and personnel were not made available.
