Goa, Sept. 16 -- As the world ob served International Day of Democracy on Tuesday, September 15, under the 2026 theme "When every voice counts, democracy delivers," questions have been raised in Goa over whether citizens' views are adequately reflected in de cisions affecting their land, environment, livelihoods and quality of life. The United Nations says democracy extends beyond elections, requiring mean ingful civic and political participation, dialogue, hu man rights and the rule of law. This year's observance particularly emphasises deliberative processes that allow diverse sections of society to participate in de cisions affecting them.
