PANAJI, Nov. 5 -- Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that the Goa government is seeking a scientific review of 153 mining leases located within eco-sensitive areas of the Western Ghats.

Sawant said the state has urged the Centre to examine whether mineral resources in eligible areas can be opened for auction through the due legal process, while ensuring that ecologically fragile zones are protected.

The proposed review aims to assess the feasibility of mining activities in accordance with applicable environmental and legal safeguards.
