Panjim, Oct. 7 -- Goa recorded 1,005 motor vehicle accidents during the first nine months of 2026, marking a 9.8% increase compared to the corresponding period in 2025.

While the number of road accident fatalities declined, with deaths falling from 96 in 2025 to 91 in 2026, the number of people suffering grievous injuries increased significantly.

Grievous injuries rose by 33.07%, from 130 cases in 2025 to 173 cases during the first nine months of 2026.

Among the various areas, Ponda recorded the highest number of accidents at 159, making it the area with the largest reported accident count during the period.
