PANAJI, Sept. 8 -- The Goa government has notified the Goa Municipalities (Amendment) Act, 2026, introducing changes to the process of municipal ward delimitation, reservation and elections across the state.

One of the key changes under the amendment is an increase in the population threshold used for determining the number of municipal seats. The threshold has been raised from 2,500 to 3,000 people.

The amendment also empowers the State Election Commission (SEC) to undertake the delimitation of municipal wards within 60 days.

Following the delimitation exercise, the proposed ward boundaries will be placed before the public, allowing citizens to submit their objections and suggestions within the prescribed process.
