India, March 9 -- The Goa government has made tenant verification mandatory after approving the Goa (Verification of Tenants) Rules, 2026. Under the new regulations, house owners who fail to verify the identity of tenants staying on their premises could face up to six months in jail and a fine of up to 10,000.
As per the rules, landlords must verify tenants' identification documents, maintain proper records of their stay, and submit the tenant details to the jurisdictional police station within five days. The information can be submitted either physically or through digital mode
