Goa Leaders Head To Delhi To Discuss Next Steps On ST Reservation
Goa, Nov. 2 -- A Goa delegation is meeting Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta in New Delhi on Monday evening to decide the next legal steps on Scheduled Tribe (ST) political reservation. The team includes BJP vice-president Narendra Sawaikar, Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, Advocate General Devidas Pangam, Additional Solicitor General Pravin Faldessai and other ST leaders.
The Bombay High Court at Goa has stayed the process of notifying Goa's estimated ST population, a key requirement for identifying and reserving Assembly constituencies. The delegation will discuss challenging the interim order in the Supreme Court and the legal strategy to secure ST reservation before the 2027 Assembly elections.
