Goa Human Rights Commission flags sewage crisis at Colvale Central Jail
Goa, Aug. 27 -- The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has taken serious note of a sewage problem at Colvale Central Jail that has reportedly persisted since 2021. The Commission observed prima facie that delays and alleged negligence by the PWD could be affecting the rights of inmates and jail staff. Acting on a complaint, GHRC issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Prisons and Principal Chief Engineer, PWD, directing them to respond and appear before it on September 11. The Commission also directed the PWD to expedite pending work and resolve the sewage issue without further delay.
