Goa, Oct. 25 -- Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said the state government is ready to acquire, preserve and beautify the historic Shuddhikaran site at Chimbel, linked to the 1928 reconversion movement. Historical accounts state that around 800 Christian Gawdas returned to Hinduism on February 26, 1928. Sawant said the site is currently privately owned, but the government is willing to approach the owner and acquire the land if necessary. Any development would reflect the community's wishes, given the location's religious significance and emotional importance to the Gawda community.
