Goa, Aug. 22 -- The Goa government has officially declared cancer a Notified Disease under the Goa Public Health Act, 1985, making it mandatory for healthcare establishments across the state to report newly diagnosed cases.

Under the new requirement, government and private hospitals, clinics, laboratories and oncologists must report cancer diagnoses to the Directorate of Health Services within 7 to 30 days.

The move is aimed at establishing a State Cancer Registry to systematically record cancer cases across Goa and support better monitoring, planning and healthcare interventions.

Authorities have also clarified that patient information collected under the reporting system will remain confidential.
