Goa, July 21 -- Goa BJP vice president Narendra Sawaikar has deleted his controversial social media post in which he referred to protesters as "termites" after it triggered widespread criticism and backlash.

The post drew sharp reactions from political leaders and members of the public, many of whom condemned the remark and demanded that the BJP leader issue a public apology.

The controversy erupted after Sawaikar's comments were perceived as targeting youngsters who had participated in a protest at Azad Maidan in support of environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk.
