Goa, May 13 -- The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of the ongoing deadlock over the issuance of income certificates in Chimbel, observing that the matter prima facie concerns a violation of human rights.

The commission has issued notices to the Secretary of the Chimbel Village Panchayat as well as the Directorate of Panchayats (DoP), seeking their response in connection with the issue.

The matter has been scheduled for hearing on June 2.

The dispute over the issuance of income certificates has reportedly affected several residents, prompting intervention from the human rights body. Further proceedings are expected during the upcoming hearing before the commission.
