PANJIM, April 28 -- The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has directed the ESI Insurance Medical Officer, Incharge and Head of Office, Margao, to refund Rs 4,79,611 recovered from the complainant, as expeditiously as possible and not later than 60 days from the date of the order.

The Commission further held that if the amount is not refunded within the stipulated period, it shall carry interest at the rate of 8 per cent per annum from the date of the order until actual payment.

The complaint was filed by Teotonio Jose Maria Pereira of Carmona, who challenged the recovery of Rs 4,79,611 deducted from his gratuity on May 26, 2025, following his retirement in February last year.
