Goa, July 8 -- Former Cortalim Zilla Panchayat member Mariano Rodrigues was formally inducted into the Congress party on Tuesday in the presence of senior party leaders, including AICC General Secretary Manikrao Thakre, Dr. Anjali Nimbalkar, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, GPCC President Girish Chodankar and other functionaries.

Speaking to reporters, Chodankar said Rodrigues enjoys strong public support in Zuarinagar and recalled that he had narrowly lost the 2017 Assembly election from Cortalim by around 400 votes while contesting on a Congress ticket.
