Margao, June 24 -- A resident of Fatorda has allegedly been cheated of Rs.3.25 lakh by cyber fraudsters who tricked him into installing a fake mobile application under the pretext of updating his gas bill.

According to a complaint lodged with Fatorda Police, the victim received a phone call from an unknown individual between May 29 and June 5. The caller allegedly convinced him to download and install a file named "Mahanagar Gas Bill Update App" on his mobile phone.

Police said that after the application was installed, the accused allegedly gained unauthorised access to the victim's device and carried out four UPI transactions from his Canara Bank account without his knowledge.
