India, March 23 -- An accused in a counterfeit currency case at Porvorim has been sent to four days of police custody after allegedly depositing fake 500 notes at an HDFC Bank branch. The incident came to light when bank officials identified suspicious currency deposited through a cash deposit machine and alerted the police. A case was subsequently registered, and investigations are now underway to trace the source of the fake notes. Police are also examining possible links to a broader network involved in circulating counterfeit currency. The probe is being led by PSI Sachin Shirodkar of Porvorim Police Station.
