Goa, July 16 -- England suffered another agonising FIFA World Cup semi-final exit after their hopes of reaching the 2026 final were dashed by defending champions Argentina in a dramatic encounter in Atlanta.

The Three Lions appeared to be on course for a famous victory for much of the match, keeping Argentina under control in a tightly contested first half. Both sides struggled to create clear-cut opportunities, with the game dominated by intense physical battles. England registered an expected goals (xG) figure of just 0.05, while Argentina managed only 0.03 before the break.
