Delhi Tightens Security Ahead of CJP Protest, 45 Metro Stations Shut
Goa, Oct. 10 -- New Delhi witnessed an unprecedented security buildup on Saturday as authorities prepared for a proposed protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and allied organisations at Jantar Mantar. Around 23,000 security personnel were deployed, 45 metro stations were shut and more than 200 trains were cancelled amid concerns over the planned demonstration.
The protest, scheduled for October 10, has been organised by the CJP, founded by Abhijeet Dipke, along with student organisations, social activists and farmer groups. The demonstrators are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the complete withdrawal of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
