Goa, May 26 -- The Curchorem Market Motorcycle and Rickshaw Association has appealed to the government to provide financial subsidies to motorcycle pilots and rickshaw operators in view of the continuous rise in petrol and diesel prices.

Association president Shankar Gaonkar said that the steady increase in fuel prices has placed a heavy burden on drivers who depend on daily earnings for their livelihood. He urged the government to extend financial assistance if fuel prices continue to rise further.

Gaonkar recalled that during the tenure of former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, a scheme had been introduced under which motorcycle pilots received a monthly subsidy of Rs 2,500.
