Goa, Oct. 30 -- Concerns over fire safety in Curchorem have intensified after several fire hydrant valves in the market area were reportedly found buried underground, non-functional or obstructed by their location on footpaths.

According to the Fire Department, a letter highlighting the issue was submitted to the Curchorem Municipal Council in 2025. However, repair work has reportedly not been undertaken so far.

On Friday, local residents, along with Dattaraj Dessai, submitted a memorandum to the municipal administration, demanding immediate repairs to the hydrant valves and restoration of functional fire hydrants across the market area.
