India, March 3 -- A commercial dispute over cancelled peak-season flights has ended with the Akasa Air being directed to pay 1.08 crore in compensation. The order was passed by the Delhi Commercial Court in favour of a Delhi-based travel agency after eight confirmed group bookings to and from Goa were scrapped during the busy Christmas-New Year period.
According to court findings, the cancellations affected 640 seats that had already been partially paid for by the agency. The court observed that the airline's decision to cancel the confirmed group PNRs amounted to a breach of contract, particularly as the bookings were made well in advance for one of the most lucrative travel windows of the year.
