CORTALIM, Oct. 27 -- A Congress leader from Cortalim has criticised Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant over his reported 'Yendu Gundu' remark concerning the Kannada language, alleging that the statement was disrespectful to Kannada-speaking people.

The Congress leader said that members of the BJP in Cortalim itself include Kannadiga residents, particularly in Zuarinagar, and called on local BJP members to apologise to the people on behalf of the Chief Minister.

Questioning the remark, the leader said that the Kannada language and its speakers deserved respect and that such comments could hurt the sentiments of the Kannada-speaking community.
