Goa, May 14 -- The Indian National Congress has chosen senior leader VD Satheesan as the new Chief Minister of Kerala, ten days after the Congress-led United Democratic Front secured a decisive victory in the Assembly elections.

The United Democratic Front won 102 seats in the 140-member Kerala Assembly, paving the way for the formation of a new government in the state.

The decision was finalised after senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, met party president Mallikarjun Kharge at his residence in New Delhi.

Satheesan was considered one of the frontrunners for the chief ministerial post along with senior Congress leader KC Venugopal.
