Goa, Aug. 3 -- The contractor has commenced chipping work at the historic South Goa Comunidade building following concerns over the alleged poor quality of restoration work, Congress leader Savio Coutinho said on Monday.

Coutinho said the development came after the issue was brought to the attention of the concerned authorities. He expressed satisfaction that corrective work had begun but stressed that the restoration of the heritage structure must be carried out in accordance with prescribed conservation standards.

He also hoped that the work inside the building would be executed with the same level of care and professionalism to ensure the preservation of the historic property.
