Mumbai, Sept. 11 -- The Bombay High Court on Thursday strongly criticised the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) over the accumulation of garbage on roads across Mumbai, questioning the civic body's ability to manage the city's waste.

A division bench comprising Justice Girish Kulkarni and Justice Neela Gokhale expressed serious concern while hearing a petition filed by residents of Kannamwar Nagar over pollution allegedly caused by the Kanjurmarg dumping ground.

The court questioned the BMC on the condition of waste management in the city and asked, "Is the entire city covered in garbage? Has the machinery become inactive?"
