Goa, June 30 -- After remaining vacant for nearly two months, the post of Sarpanch of the Karapur-Sarvan Gram Panchayat is set to be filled, with Bindiya (Avani) Sawant scheduled to assume office on Tuesday.

Sawant had emerged as the frontrunner for the position and will officially take charge as the new Sarpanch, ending the administrative vacancy at the village panchayat.

Her appointment comes at a crucial time, with the agitation against the proposed mega-project in Karapur entering its 87th day. The prolonged protest has brought local governance issues into sharp focus, increasing expectations from the new Panchayat leadership.
