Goa, Sept. 23 -- Banks will remain open this Sunday, September 27, ahead of a three-day nationwide strike scheduled from September 28 to 30, the government said. The move is aimed at providing customers access to banking services ahead of the proposed strike by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU). The decision follows an inconclusive conciliation meeting between the unions and the Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner on Tuesday.

The UFBU, which represents around 90% of the banking workforce, is primarily seeking a five-day banking week.
