Goa, Aug. 13 -- Bangladesh is facing one of its most serious energy crises in years, with a shortage of natural gas severely affecting electricity generation. The resulting power deficit has led to prolonged load-shedding across several parts of the country, particularly outside the capital Dhaka.

The crisis has forced the government to introduce stricter measures aimed at reducing electricity consumption. Under a new directive that came into effect on Thursday, shops, markets and shopping malls have been ordered to close by 8 pm.

Commercial establishments can operate between 11 am and 8 pm, while hospitals, pharmacies and businesses dealing with food have been exempted from the restrictions.
