Goa, July 6 -- Calangute Police have arrested an Australian national for allegedly residing in Goa with an invalid visa, officials said.

The accused has been identified as David John Jeffree, an Australian citizen. He was apprehended from a flat in Candolim on Friday night during a police operation.

According to police, Jeffree was found to be staying in the state despite his visa being invalid, prompting authorities to take him into custody for violating immigration regulations.

Police have initiated legal proceedings against the foreign national under the relevant provisions of the law. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding his stay in Goa.
