Accidental Gunfire at Varanasi Airport Leaves Two Security Personnel Injured During Screening
Goa, Aug. 17 -- Two airport security personnel were injured after a licensed pistol carried by a passenger accidentally discharged during mandatory security screening at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi on Monday morning, officials said.
The passenger, identified as Kamlesh Kedarnath Rai, a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh district, was travelling to Mumbai with his wife on Air India Express flight IX1810 from Varanasi.
According to officials, Rai was carrying a licensed 7.62 mm pistol along with 21 live cartridges. The firearm was being inspected as part of the prescribed security procedures when a round was accidentally fired.
