Goa, April 8 -- In a significant election-related controversy, nearly 3,000 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Goa remain blocked due to an ongoing case before the Bombay High Court. The situation has sparked concerns about a possible shortage of voting equipment for upcoming elections.

The dispute stems from a petition filed by a defeated candidate from South Goa, who alleged violations of Election Commission of India guidelines during the commissioning process of the EVMs. As a result, the machines have not been released for reuse, pending the outcome of the case.
