Goa, April 16 -- A tragic incident was reported from Vathadev where a 24-year-old man lost his life after drowning while bathing in a water body.

The deceased has been identified as Damodar alias Abhishek Naik, who reportedly slipped into deeper water and was unable to stay afloat.

Locals said the young man was a devotee of Shri Devi Lairai, and his untimely death has cast a pall of gloom over the area, especially as it comes just ahead of the annual jatra dedicated to the deity.

The incident has left the local community in shock, with many mourning the loss during a time usually marked by religious celebrations.
