Goa, April 13 -- At least 11 people lost their lives and one person sustained critical injuries after a devastating road accident near Kalyan in Thane district on Monday. The tragic incident occurred when a Maruti Eeco passenger van collided head-on with a cement mixer truck on the busy Kalyan-Ahilyanagar National Highway.

The accident took place on the Raita bridge in Govili village, located in the Murbad area. According to officials, the van was carrying 12 passengers-double its authorized capacity-when the collision occurred.
