Functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGID), including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), are common conditions characterized by recurrent gastrointestinal symptoms that cannot be fully explained by structural disease. FGID are associated with reduced quality of life, functional impairment, psychiatric comorbidity, and high healthcare utilization.
