Brief Summary: Lactation is the period when new mothers breastfeed their babies and milk production is at its highest level. During this period, breast milk, as a natural source of nutrition, provides the baby with the necessary nutrients for the first six months following birth. Globally, 44% of newborns are breastfed within the first hour, and 40% are exclusively breastfed for the first six months.
