India, June 4 -- Recent data highlights a transformative shift in the life expectancy of Botswana's population since the mid-twentieth century.
Historical Growth and Mid-Century Peaks
In 1960, life expectancy stood at 53.1 years for females and 49.2 years for males. These figures climbed steadily for over two decades, reaching an initial peak in the mid-1980s when female expectancy hit 66.7 years and male expectancy reached 60.8 years.
The Decadal Downturn and Crisis
A sharp decline followed this peak, with longevity metrics plummeting throughout the 1990s. By 2001, female life expectancy had dropped to 53.9 years, nearly returning to 1960 levels. Male expectancy similarly bottomed out at 50.5 years in 2000.
