India, June 4 -- Life expectancy in Bangladesh has increased significantly over the past six decades, with women recording a larger gain than men and maintaining a longevity advantage in recent years.
Female Life Expectancy Sees Strong Growth
Data for 2023 show that women in Bangladesh had a life expectancy of 76.37 years, up from 43.18 years in 1960. This represents an increase of 33.2 years over the period.
Men's life expectancy also improved substantially, rising from 44.72 years in 1960 to 73.03 years in 2023, a gain of 28.3 years.
Gender Gap Reverses Over Time
In 1960, men lived about 1.5 years longer than women on average. Over the following decades, the trend shifted in favour of women.
