Haldwani, 28 May: Veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat has levelled serious allegations against the District Development Authority, claiming it has become a tool for extortion and is harassing the public. Addressing the media in Haldwani during his visit, Rawat said the authority's officials had turned into 'extortion masters' and the system had become a festering wound for the state. He demanded that the government must protect the citizens from the authority's excesses.
