Liberia, Aug. 12 -- A group of Liberian nationals, writing through spokesperson Emmanuel Johnson, say they've been held at a Cambodian immigration detention center in Phnom Penh since May 25, 2026 - not for any crime, but because they can't afford flight tickets home. They say they were trafficked to Cambodia under false job promises, had their passports and phones confiscated, and were eventually rescued by Cambodian police. Their overstay violations were later resolved through Liberia's Embassy in China. Still, with no funds for airfare, they remain detained - now facing the threat of transfer to Cambodia's main prison if tickets aren't secured soon.
