Liberia: Boakai Raises Alarm Over Undocumented Migrants in Mining, Agriculture Sectors After Attack on Mines and Energy Officials
Liberia, June 1 -- President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has broken his silence on the large influx of Burkinabe nationals into Liberia. In recent years, the country has seen an estimated 100,000 or more Burkinabe arrive across several counties - primarily forest areas involved in cocoa production and mining.
President Boakai expressed concern over the growing presence of undocumented Burkinabe nationals operating in Liberia's mining sector, describing the issue as one of his administration's most pressing challenges.
Speaking Thursday at the opening of the 20th Cabinet Meeting at the Tea House of the Executive Mansion, President Boakai said illegal mining activities involving foreign nationals have become a major concern.
