Liberia, June 2 -- Police in Tappita City, Nimba County have launched an investigation after an armed robbery at the Needonnwine Chinese Gold Mining Camp in Gbei Doru, Administrative District 9 in Nimba County.

The incident took place several days ago.

According to local sources, robbers seized gold valued at about US$75,000 and took a large sum of cash.

A FrontPage Africa reporter, who visited the camp, found only six private security officers on site; there were no visible armed police officers at the facility.

The six security guards were reportedly beaten and tied with ropes by the assailants.
