NEW DELHI, India, Aug. 14 -- Liberia has officially reopened its Embassy in New Delhi after more than 35 years without a resident diplomatic mission in India, marking a major step in efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti is in New Delhi to formally inaugurate the Embassy on behalf of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and the Government and people of Liberia.

The Liberian Embassy in India was closed more than three decades ago amid geopolitical and other challenges facing the country. Successive administrations subsequently sought to restore a permanent diplomatic presence in India, recognizing the country's growing importance as a partner in Asia.
