COLOMBO, June 2 -- The Police Headquarters has introduced a mandatory firearm inspection and certification process for private security firearm permit holders as part of the 2026 permit renewal framework.

Under the new requirement, permit holders must present their firearms at the nearest police station once six months have elapsed since the issuance or renewal of their permit. Police officers will inspect the weapon to verify its operational condition and confirm that the firearm's serial number corresponds with the details recorded on the permit.
