COLOMBO, Sept. 25 -- A new Bill aimed at eliminating rabies in Sri Lanka through mandatory dog registration, vaccination and measures to control the dog population was presented to Parliament on Thursday (24) by Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Professor A.H.M.H. Abayarathna.

The proposed legislation seeks to establish a comprehensive legal framework for rabies prevention, including the regulation of dog vaccination and population-control measures.

It also proposes tighter regulation of the commercial breeding of dogs and the introduction of a formal system for registering dogs.
