COLOMBO, June 26 -- At least 38 passengers were injured after two private buses collided head-on in Sri Lanka's southern Matara district on Friday (26) morning, police said.

The accident occurred at around 7.45 a.m. on Talalla Vajirawansha Mawatha along the Matara-Tangalle Road, involving a private bus travelling from Galle to Ampara and another operating on the Tangalle-Matara route.

Police said 25 injured passengers were admitted to the Matara General Hospital, while 13 others were taken to the Batheegama District Hospital for treatment.

The collision temporarily disrupted traffic on the main Matara-Tangalle road as authorities worked to clear the area.
