India, Aug. 12 -- Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has criticised what she described as a deeply entrenched patriarchal mindset in parts of Himachal Pradesh, saying the preference for sons can place immense emotional pressure on women.

Ranaut, who represents Mandi and hails from Himachal Pradesh, made the remarks while responding to a post on X featuring the story of a Himachali woman who reportedly had 11 children, with the first 10 being girls and the 11th a boy. The post questioned the social pressure placed on women to continue pregnancies until a son is born.
