India, Sept. 15 -- The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards opened in Los Angeles with Apple TV's horror-comedy Widow's Bay and hospital drama The Pitt among the leading contenders for the night's biggest television honours.

'Widow's Bay' Makes Early Impact

Widow's Bay, starring Matthew Rhys as the leader of an isolated New England island haunted by mysterious forces, entered the ceremony after collecting eight awards during the pre-gala ceremonies. The early haul placed the series within reach of setting a new record for the most Emmys won by a comedy in a single year.
