India, July 23 -- Legendary fashion designer Bob Mackie has reached a settlement in principle to end his legal disputes with JCPenney and business partner Marc Schwartz over the unauthorized use of his brand. The designer, who outfitted stars like Elton John and Carol Burnett, sued over the use of his signature and likeness for mass market apparel.
Court Dismisses Litigation
U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres dismissed the lawsuits in a Manhattan court on Tuesday after Mackie's legal counsel, Michael Firestone, confirmed that both sides agreed on material terms. A final settlement is expected by July 28, though specific terms remain confidential. JCPenney and Schwartz representatives declined to comment on the resolution.
